Freedom House: America's First Ambulance Service

We all know to call 911 for any medical emergency. What most people don’t know is that up until the late 1960s there weren’t any ambulance services or companies in the United States. Until recently most people, including paramedics, did not know the history of EMS and how it got its start in Pittsburgh PA. This presentation will cover the history of Freedom House and the role it played in creating the 911 service we know today.

"What We Have Learned from the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems" or "What's Hot on TBI Research"

The Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems (TBIMS) program is the first and largest prospective, longitudinal, multicenter study ever conducted. The purpose of the TBIMS longitudinal study is to examine the course of recovery and outcomes for persons with moderate-severe TBI, who have received a coordinated system of acute neurotrauma and inpatient rehabilitation. Dr. Rabinowitz will describe the aims and procedures of the TBIMS, and highlight some of the research breakthroughs and insights gained from the research conducted using the TBIMS national database, as well as other collaborations among TBIMS investigators.
